All Proteins are not created equal
All Proteins are not created equal. It is a general fact that Whey protein is often used when exercising to assist in the repair of muscle tissue after physical exercise. It also used to promote the growth of lean muscle as well. The results of consuming Whey Protein would depend on individual circumstances, the type of activity and overall diet and general health.
Protein is important in the diet because:
- The enzymes within it assist in the absorption of nutrients
- Assists in regulating blood sugar levels.
- It can assist in maintaining a healthy blood pressure range
- Assists in weight loss.
"Whey Protein is the actual liquid that comes from milk that is separated in the cheesemaking process. This done by heating it so that unwanted bacteria is then destroyed. The Whey is then further processed through a number of means including being filtered. This can be processed a number of times so that the liquid is dried and be transformed into a powder form. "
There are 2 types of protein in milk:
Casein - Contains amino acids and Is absorbed by the body slowly. This is good for consuming before sleep at is a slow release protein.Whey - Low in lactose and also contains a number of essential amino acids but is quickly absorbed into the body.
** In general, Whey Protein is able to be mixed more easily into liquid than Casein. It also has a better consistency and taste. Milk will make it thicker than mixed in with water also. The best way to mix is in a blender, but it can easily be done after shaking it in a shaker bottle. Always fill up the shaker with water first and then the powder second. This will make it easier for the protein to be absorb into the liquid. Doing it the other way will create lumps and you may well be shaking away until your arm falls off!
Some of the benefits in using Whey Protein include:
- Assistance in weight loss
- Helps the recovery process after exercise
- Creating lean muscle
The body's metabolic rate changes as the body gets older with age. Metabolism is the way to describe how the body reacts to the different chemical reactions that continuously happens in daily life. The things we consume react differently based on food types, quality of the food, the amount of exercise that is being done and even when in a state of being still. There is a unit of measure that rates how the body functions. This is referred to as the metabolic rate. The higher the rating the more efficient the body is able to burn energy. So when someone says, that they have a good metabolism, it means that they are able process foods efficiently and they may not necessarily put on weight, because of it.
It is important to note that some people who are lactose intolerant will need to consume either a non dairy equivalent or a Whey Protein Isolate. (This is where the milk is processed further to remove the fat and lactose content).
To make it short. If you are continuing your health journey, as part of a well balanced diet, protein is an important piece of the jigsaw puzzle. Not everyone needs it, especially when youth is on their side, but as you get older and the body takes a bit longer to recover, then it is very important to supplement the body with the extra magic it requires to continue to gain strength and energy.
